Our Hats Off to You!

The Kindergarten and first grade classes had a blast creating hats during this short week. We read the book, Do You Have a Hat, by Eileen Spinelli. Next, we discussed the illustrations and the question-Why do we wear hats? Through all the paper, glue, feathers, staples, and sequins, the students expressed their individuality while making their hat.

Halloween Memories

Remembering back into my own childhood, Halloween was my favorite time of year. The leaves were beginning to change colors and fall, the temperature was cooler, and most important of all, the decision of what in the world I was going to dress up as. I couldn't wait to gather up my ideas, grab the scissors, paint, thread, needles, material, and accessories. My mom would gather up all the make-up and sketch ideas for the scariest design ever. Not only did I have to get creative with my costume, but it was very important to have the most unique jack-o-lantern in the neighborhood. That job was for my dad and me. Thinking back, Halloween was great for the family to get together and have fun. Making costumes, carving pumpkins, and cooking scary treats are some of the fondest memories that I have.
Here are some links to visit that may give you some ideas for a scary, creative, and fun Halloween that your family will always remember.

Frogs Everywhere

The third grade has been busy creating frogs! I taught them a little magic trick of how to show objects close up and far away on a flat sheet of paper. These masterpieces are hilarious to say the least. Come by the all student art show December 1st to see these frogs displayed.

Here are some fun frog links:

Audobon's Birds

During this first nine weeks, the students have been learning about James Audobon and his art. Through Audobon's work we were able to learn more about showing emphasis with placement on the paper and color. 5th graders have really enjoyed working on their birds and should be very proud of their artwork. The students' birds will be displayed during the Student Art Show on December 1, 2008. For more information on James Audobon and his work visit these sites:

Welcome to Mrs. Bayne's Art Blog!

Welcome to Mrs. Bayne's Art Blog! It has been really busy in the art room the past few weeks!
The students are working hard at creating their artwork for the big Art Show. The theme for this year's artshow is " Inspired by Nature." The kindergarteners are working on fish, 1st grade on turtles, 2nd grade on monkeys, 3rd grade on frogs, 4th grade on flowers, and 5th grade on birds. I am so impressed with the imagination and creativity the students have put into their art.
